CAL Accreditation 101: What's Involved

 

Contractor Accreditation Limited (CAL) is the Northern Territory Government's prequalification framework. Your CAL accreditation is set by Category, Group, Sub-Group and a dollar Rating.

The Rating is the maximum value of work CAL accredits you to undertake within a particular Sub-Group.

For example, if you hold a $200,000 Rating for fencing, CAL has assessed you as capable of delivering fencing contracts up to that value.

As the Rating increases, CAL requires more evidence to demonstrate capability and financial capacity before accrediting a contractor at the higher Rating.

Three Thresholds:

​

$50,000 determines your status – whether you apply as Prequalified (under $50,000) or Accredited (over $50,000); from $100,000 - financial statements become mandatory; and

above $250,000 - management accounts are required in addition to financial statements.

What every application needs:

​

• Corporate identity - entity, ABN/ACN, directors with Director IDs and dates of birth (CAL runs a national credit check)

• Category, Group and Sub-Group selection, with a preferred dollar Rating against each

• Mandatory licences for each Sub-Group nominated

• Insurance Certificates of Currency - Public Liability (all applicants), Workers Compensation (where staff are employed), Professional Indemnity (Project Management)

• Past performance - at least three projects from the past year, plus five years of turnover history

• Management capacity - labour relations, training, WHS, contract control, quality, environmental

• Human resources, workforce composition and equipment resources

• Local Commitment and NT Procurement Code acknowledgement

• Director declarations and indemnities
